Berlin, Germany – still bearing the brunt of history.

When I was searching for an image, something once again asked that I seek a specific image. This is most likely because when I look at the news, we are still being told how many things divide us as human beings, more than what makes us similar.

Division has been around for millennia in our species and most often than not, it was about resources; it was about survival. I guess when I look back in my life; I have been taught to make sure that I have the resources I need and that I should always fight for what is mine. I was also taught that human beings are all the same despite their differences; but also, was taught that if I enter a relationship, I should never stay with someone out of pity but decide if I truly cared and if it felt it was not working, then I should be honest with the person and move on.

I wonder how many of us are truly honest with ourselves?

How many of us can recognise that more things unite us as human beings?

How many of us are ready to acknowledge that the pity we feel for others sometimes is actually all about us really, and perhaps we need to evaluate our own internal thoughts before we seek to cast the proverbial 1st stone?

In history, as humankind, we have built walls to keep the enemy out; but what if the enemy is our own self?

What it if the enemy we are seeking to destroy is actually our own thought processes?

What if the only thing separating us from another is the very personal thoughts that come from a place of insecurity?

What if the division we see only is because we do not know enough about another person?

But what if that lack of knowledge is actually about our own thought processes, where they come from? And we have never questioned our thoughts?

Is division real, or is it something we have been taught to believe?
