A silhouette of a cat sitting on a floor, with soft light reflecting around its shape.

I know, I can hear you all shout in unison “not a cat again”” – well I would not be trendy if I did not remind you that cat’s rule the internet. Cats have been rulers since Egyptian times, so why would we change the trend?! 😊

It was impossible not to photograph Tila when the sun was creating such an amazing portrait of her. It was a no brainer, as a photographer this was a must.

When I was trying to think of a title the natural one that came was “the shadow self”, but then again Tila was clearly waiting for something to happen as she locked eyes with me, so I settled on the title “expectant”.

As we are getting closer and closer to the end of a calendar year we are all expectant of something new, something to look forward to, something different than the constant rat run of this year. We are expectant that things get back to how they used to be, we are expectant for a better life, for a life without worries or perhaps emotions.

In a way, similar to Tila, we have our physical body knowing that is in the here and now and that it requires us to deal with the reality of today, but just like Tila our imagined self extends beyond the physical. We are here in body but gone in spirit. We are present and yet we are chasing a chimera far in the distance hoping to catch up with it.

Some of us have a defined, clear idea of how we want to experience the world, the self, the various planes of existence, and we go for the with a brave heart, knowing that the abundant life we dream is there waiting for us.

Some of us look to the future with dread. We imagine how all that was there today or yesterday, may be there tomorrow and the day after. And as we propel ourselves forward from the emotions of today we can’t but arrive to a world that’s filled with shadows and gloom.

Tila exemplifies both scenarios beautifully. For me this image is that of beauty and mystery and a manifestation of light. For others this image may be gloomy and dreary and uncomfortable to look at.

When you are projecting to the future, your expectant self, what does it see?
