A “picture perfect image” from the South of England 2016. Seeing this image, the only word that came to me was freedom. Being able to sit in the open air and watch the world go by is such a feeling of wellness, that many can’t appreciate until is being take away from them.
Yesterday I was talking about this very concept of freedom, being able to do what they want when they want it without needing permission to do it. And yet on Monday I was speaking to another client and we were discussing how sometimes having too much freedom and too many choices can also be too overwhelming. So how do you achieve the right balance between not enough and too much? How are you able to manage your own freedom without infringing on someone else’s? Two interesting questions that have been milling around with humanity for a very long time, and perhaps nobody will find the answer.
I guess freedom is not just about what you are allowed to do but also being aware that outside of you there is a whole world that needs to work in harmony, a balance needs to be achieved, and the universe will always come back to balance.
If you only get your own way, then what about the others? If you only get your own needs met, what about the others?
Think about it this way, your own human body is made up of billions of cells. What if one cell decided I am the only one that matters and decides to multiply and multiply and multiply to the detriment of others? Did you get it? It’s called cancer. So then why is it that some human beings find it difficult to understand that freedom does not just mean take take take but also give give give. Was there a period of time in your life that maybe you were just taking? Was there a time in your life when you were just giving? Was there a time when things were balanced? When did you feel most like yourself?
Often, we seek perfection in the hope that if we reach that point, things will become easier, but what we fail to recognise is, that perfection is an ideal, that we can never reach. For, with every movement, we discover another aspect that we have not thought of, and we are again off in search of perfection. So then, why are we so fixated on total freedom? What makes freedom such a dear concept to us humans?
Is freedom worth it?
