Well, if you are a cat or a dog and you are entered into a beauty contest, all your bits are checked, you are measured from head to tail, weighed, checked for pedigree, compared to standardised measurements, and if you do not fit the bill, your time is up, eliminated for not being purrrfect. I am sure the cat in the image did not feel humiliated at all – when I look at the poor kitty I can actually see the humiliation all over it’s face.
Don’t you feel like you live almost a life like that of the cat in the image? Don’t you feel like you are being checked for pedigree, for any faults, and compared to others, just to be accepted and get the gold star of approval?
Have you actually stopped doing that to yourself? Yup, I was not talking about others comparing you, I was talking about you keep comparing yourself down against others.
Did you think that I was checking to see if you felt accepted by others? Nope I was checking to see if you started accepting yourself, with positives and negatives, with the strength and the weaknesses and everything about you?
And yes in the human world; we feel like we have to be the best of the best in order to get the “top whatever it is your are considering top stuff” and you compare yourself to others who maybe were on this planet longer, who were more enterprising, who had a stronger start in life than you, and when the realisation comes that you do not measure up to that hight you set the bar at, you start doubting your own magnificence as a human being and all the negativity overwhelms you.
I am just checking, have you started to have a different thought every day?
Are you doing anything different to what you did yesterday?
Have you changed anything about your routine?
Have you taken the shower you keep putting off, it’s not like we can go anywhere and be seen by anyone?
Have you stopped going to that fridge that has become your friend as of late?
Did you stop at the first glass of wine instead of chugging down the whole bottle?
Have you deleted that dating app that does not serve your relationship status?
Have you stopped binging on newsfeeds? Have you started exploring your options? Have you been for a walk today?
Have you noticed the shape of the clouds? Have you noticed the shade of the sun?
Have you looked around yourself to recognise that after every storm the sun shines again?
In my head I should be a Flemish painter who can paint photographic paintings, but in reality the last time I picked up a brush was when I was perhaps 12. So unless I physically start painting and practicing the art of painting, I can not expect to be able to create an art piece that resembles a photograph. In the same way unless you are actively doing some internal work on the self, your mood, your outlook on life, your relationship status, your job opportunity, your life in general will not improve.
I am checking on you today my reader, how are you doing? Did you get the proverbial hug today, to recognise that you matter, that you are important, that you are special?
Just checking, have you started the journey of discovery?
