A row of colourful bicycles parked on a cobblestone path, featuring decorative elements like flowers and baskets.

Today the image that jumped out for the blog was from a cycling event I took part in a few years back. This event was organised to encourage women to do more cycling. I guess where this event took place women were not really using this mode of transport. An yes, it was a beautifully sunny day there were almost 200 women on bikes cycling around town.

The reason this image jumped out today is because it naturally lent itself to the concept of lining up for the race for life.

As the world emerges from the various lockdown protocols and everyone is having to re-engage with the world after the world wide trauma, I am wondering how many people are literally lining up to get back into the rat race. I am wondering how many people are rushed off their feet again, not being able to do anything other than work, being so overwhelmed by everyone and everything, that if feels like they are running a marathon.

Last week I was talking to a colleague who told me how rushed off their feet they were, how under pressure they were to perform, how under the microscope they felt by their bosses to perform. This week another colleague told me the same, they feel under pressure to meet deadlines again, the deadlines are too constrictive, their mind is racing trying to get everything done.

To me it is interesting how as human beings we can deny others the breathing space when the other person is indeed the same as us, they all have the same 24 hours to do what they need to do, they too have the same commitment to have a human experience, they are all bound by the same laws of physics.

To me is also baffling to see that as humans we do not give the benefit of the doubt to others that perhaps their human experience is tougher and therefore more allowances need to be made.
