This week-end I met Nutmeg again, and may I just say, he was been a fab companion. He was not the most portrait ready feline, but when I did manage to get a picture of him, he laughed in my face. I did not take it personally, he is a feline after all, with his own thoughts, his own needs and feelings, and here’s me following him around with my camera. I totally get why he was laughing.
It is time to look back again at our humanity within. It is time to consider how many ridiculous actions do we take on a daily basis, just meet our needs, to the detriment of another? How many actions do we take, so that we can help others, and yet those actions are dismissed? How many actions do we take on, just to realise they are superfluous?
We wake up in the morning, we go about our day, we go to sleep, and somewhere in between what we do does not matter, it is not appreciated, it makes no difference, it is just going through the motions. As a whole species we are filling our day with actions, for fear that if we do not do anything, then we are useless. Haven’t you been told every day since you were a child that you need to be productive? Haven’t you been told, that there is homework to do, your room to clean, your shoes to put away? Haven’t you been told that if you are an adult you should have a partner who preferably married you, that you own your house, that you have your kids, your pets, your steady job, your car, your purpose in life? How many expectations have been put on you from the moment you were an ova and a sperm, and unbeknownst to your future parents, you were created? How much burden do you carry in the world?
So yes, Nutmeg was right, silly human. He has it made, he wakes up -if he wants, he strolls around the house – if he wants. He runs around a bit and chances a string – if he wants. He purrs a bit – if he wants. He gets petter a bit- if he wants. He eats a bit- if he wants. He drinks water- if he wants. He goes to the toilet in the litter box, then forces the human to clean it up for him by making a stinky bomb in the box. Nutmeg’s every need is catered for, and he has the freedom to look in my lens and laugh at me, for he also has the freedom to just jump off the table turn his tail at me and walk off.
Can you do all that?
Time to take out your diary and take some notes when answering the questions.
