Gloucestershire, UK -2021, a beautiful bridge over the river Coln. It is always fascinating seeing a bridge over the water, and have the opportunity to cross from one side to the other.
It almost feels like a mystical experience being able to pass over and leave something old behind, just to discover something new.
Today, as I write, is a Sunday, the last day of the Western world’s week, a bridge to the start of a new cycle in the week. For other cultures, Saturday is a point of change, for others Friday is a point of change, or a bridge in time to start anew.
I wonder which is your bridge for change?
When, if ever, did you have a point in your life when you felt that you crossed over from one point to the next?
I then also wonder if that change, that bridge, was it smooth? With no interruptions? Or was it tumultuous and troubled?
Did that bridge feel solid, or did it feel like one of those rope bridges, with a few planks missing in between?
I guess each of us has a bridge that we built ourselves. And if we used suitable materials, good building blocks as it were, the crossing is safe, feels steady, feels solid. And yet, if we did not do the work, we did not consider all implications; we did not do our tasks; we have not figured out how to build things well; we have no foundations, is it any wonder that the bridge is rickety and missing slabs?
This week I have mentioned the building of a card tower as a challenge.
Have you tried building a card tower in your life?
It is kind of the same as building a bridge, creating a crossing in our life.
We can have the environment that is getting in the way.
We can have humans getting in our way telling us stories about us, or we can take stock of everything around, regroup and try again with a different method.
Often, we forget the skills we have within in order to continue the journey. We often look outside ourselves for “someone to do something about it”, but what if WE could take action?
Are you ready for the crossing?
Is your bridge solid?
Do you have the foundation?
Do you have two banks to tie your bridge to?
Are those banks solid?
Do you have something to anchor yourself to? Or is all of it in the air, floating, hoping for the best?
The crossing is not easy, despite the beautiful surroundings, sometimes boulders need to stem the flow of water, in order for the bridge to be build. Crossing the river is never safe, for it is the river and the bank that can lead to the collapse of the strongest of bridges.
Are you ready? I am crossing…. are you?
Time to take out your diary and take some notes when answering the questions.
