An office block somewhere in London, one of those shorter high risers, outside the City. Sharp edges moving up, and up into the sky, reflecting back the same space that it now resides in. Windows into the world of work for some, and reflections for others.
I often find myself wanting to photograph the high risers and try to encompass the full size of the building, but alas I always fall just short of the top, and yet when a building is captured just right, it renders a perfect scene to the drama that is the height, and scale of it all. The eye wonders along the lines following the view, and searching it’s very end.
When it comes to who you are, where is your edge? Do you have a sharp edge to yourself? Or is it too rounded to the point that not much gets caught on it? Is it smooth to the touch, or jagged like the barb wire on top of a fence? Do your find your inner self small and hidden away, or is your self as big as a mountain rippling through time and space?
Do you see the edge of your own resistance; or are you too wrapped up in existing that unfolding yourself to experience the fulness of life it too high up in the clouds to attain?
Do you reflect back the light or do you lurk in the shadows of your soul with no hope of enjoying the sun rise?
Do you take the time to look at the beauty that rests within or do the wraiths of your past frighten you away?
Are you following the line of sight up to your higher self, or are you taking the elevator to the lower levels of your darkest basement all the time?
The core of who we are resides within the body, and it is the sum of all experiences past and present, experiences we lived ourselves or that which our ancestors brought to the fore. The building that is called your body, the core of the building that is called the self, and the clouds that is called the higher self (in my metaphor) are all the experiences of millions of humans that passed before us, they are the atoms that create the structures of who we are. Are you familiar with your own structures enough to be able to design a new you?
Are you walking on the edge, or just balancing hoping not to fall off?
Will you look up to the light with me, to see what lied beyond the top of this picture, re-imagining that which can not be seen?
If you were to draw a picture of your life in the shape of a building, what type of building would it be? Would it be a ruin in pieces? Would it be a castle? Would it be an ordinary house, or would it be a sky scraper?
