The fast lane

For anyone who is not familiar with this location, the main building is St Paul’s Cathedral as seen from the South side of the river Thames as you get onto the Millennium bridge to cross the river.

Trying to photograph the cathedral from this angle is tricky especially when there is lots of traffic. Of course this shot was achieved with a slow shutter speed therefor the pedestrians look like they are just a blur.

I wonder how many times you find that things have passed you by at such a speed that it i just blurry or foggy.

I wonder how many times events took place, you had a conversation, for the not to remember it all?

I wonder how many times details escaped you because your actions were faster than your mind, or that you were on auto pilot and your brain did thigs out of habit rather than being present in the moment?

Have you noticed how the mind is really good at doing one thing at a time? How when you are present and focused you are efficient and can pay attention to detail?

What makes you still experience the world as if in the fast lane? What makes your mind race, despite your body being at ease? What makes your body race, despite your brain being at ease? How harmoniously does your mind and body work together? What do you need to do to slow down?

The easier way to come back to base is the breath, observing how you breath in and breath out. Allow your mind to focus on how your body naturally takes a breath in and then just expels the air. If needed putting your hands on the stomach whilst taking a breath in then feeling the stomach deflate with the outbreath helps us connect with the body and the breath. Taking 10 breaths in 10 breaths out consciously, helps us centre ourselves.

Do you prefer the fast lane?
