The crack in a window, and yet it remains upright. AS living and breathing human, this is often what happens to us. Something is said, something happens and crack our armour is under pressure and despite our hardest try, we break.
There are times when it feels like nothing can damage us, and yet there are other times when a mere breeze topples us over.
This is the perfect image of how most humans must look like if we were to look at their self. Every word spoken, every even experienced, every criticism, every no, every “it’s not good enough”, every “you have not put enough effort into it”, every heart break must add to the shattered image of self.
I used to do an activity with people, we is actually something I saw on a site once. Create a drawing of a human on a piece of paper, and then read out a story where the main character is being criticised, or bullied, or told off. And for every sentence or word that felt like a hurtful thing, you should rip a peace off of the paper. Once you read the paper, check out the after math. And now try and put the image back together again. Are you able to reconstruct the image? If you stuck all the pieces back together, would the image be the same as before? Or would you see many broken lines?
In a similar way, with every word that is said to us, a crack forms within.
Sometimes we try to stand tall, and we try to show no weakness, for fear of that armour cracking, but what is actually happening; is that despite the emotionless response, the crack do get through. And with all the healing in the world we can not be whole again, but with all those fissure we can continue to enjoy the world around. With every “I am sorry”, with every gentle voice we hear, with every hug we receive, things get easier, and the wall of glass remains standing for a little while longer. And of course most importantly, we need to be gentle with our selves, we need to show love and care to our selves, before we can accept it from others.
