A view of the ocean under a dramatic sky filled with clouds, where sunlight breaks through, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere.

As I was contemplating today, which image to propose for today, I was trying to find something that would say Equinox. Yes, today is the Spring Equinox where I live, so I wanted to find an image that would match the event, but I did not have my external drive attached to I dove into the archive I have on my device. As I was looking through, this image called to me.

This is a picture I took in Cascais as the sun was setting. If you look closely you can just about make out a bird in the sky, whilst the rays reflect off the water blinding the viewer and took my mind back to the biblical story of the bird flying out from Noah’s ark searching for land, and when the bird did not come back Noah knew that the time of the flood has ended. (at least this is all I remember of the story). And of course the story continues mentioning a rainbow, etc. You can always search for the story at your leisure for the full detail.

What I did think about when I looked at this image and how it links to the Equinox, is that with each sun rise and sun set, is the hope in a new beginning, whilst putting to bed every event that happened that day. So with each sun rise the covenant stands that once again the sun will set.

And as it is the Equinox, I wonder what covenant have you made with your self either in your earlier years, or in the past decade or even at the end of this Gregorian calendar year, that you will either not do anymore or you will do more of, or you will try to do for the first time? I also wonder how many of those agreements have you broken? And the third thing I wonder, what agreements did you make that as a result you now find it hard to connect?

I guess the most widely used one is “I will never love anyone the way I loved you” (at the start of a relationship), “I will never fall in love again” (broken heart) – and yet it is the energy of this emotion that propels us forward every time. It is no misery that makes us move, it is love. So if love is what makes the world go round; then what makes us humans make this pledge to ourselves or others that we shall either keep it contained to one other human, or give up on it altogether.? And because it is Saturday after all (when I originally wrote this entry in 2021), the start of a new season of hope, I leave you with the question:

What covenant will you make with yourself moving forward?
