A white cloth sculpture of a horse rearing up, displayed on a table with candles and ornate décor in the background.

I don’t really remember which “national heritage” site I photographed this table decoration, but it was in 2015 for sure. In this particular location one of their banquette halls had a number of these central pieces all made from paper as if out of napkins. I guess back in the day such decorations were art pieces were a way of the host showing off their wealth and the skill of their servants. It was all about the show.

Not much has changed for us humans, many make the choice to adorn themselves in a similar way, spending beyond heir means, in order to impress people they don’t like with the things they don’t have in order to be accepted.

I wonder what type of behaviours?

What is it that you are taking on which is not yours, but you wear as if it was?

What is it you do in order to impress?

What is it that you put centre stage in order to deflect from something else?

I am wondering what have you left behind so that you fit in better today?

What have you ignored for a while in order to get by?

What we show to the world is often not what we feel, think or say, therefore one is not like the other.
