Detail

Today’s image is a close up of a dandelion, with its seeds. I love this picture because I managed to capture so much of the detail in this flower whilst keeping the background blurry, and yet it is from my perspective a perfect image. It was what I wanted to show, the white strands the brown seeds, and overall, the image to be balanced.

But the question is, was this the original image? What this much detail needed in order to create a balanced image? Perhaps not. The beauty of an image still depends on the viewer.

Do you remember yourself when detail was so important? When knowing every single move? Every single option needed to be considered? And if you did not have all the steps aligned just so, you could not proceed? Or do you remember being told that you need to factor in all elements in order for your dreams, your reality to be pitch perfect?

How much do you get lost in the detail? Or how much do you discard all details? Are you in one extreme or the other? Are you still struggling to reach that balance? Are you still trying to control all outcomes, or discard all eventualities for fear of failure?

Are you that person who keeps having to spin all the plates on the end of a stick? And the more you take on the more plates are spinning in the air, so you keep having to go back to the firsts one and maybe the last one and then go to the 2nd and then to the last one, and then to the 5th one and then back to the last one? Do you see where I am going? Do you need to keep all those plates in the air, all at the same time? For if you do not spin all of them, one will eventually fall.

Amid all this chaos you forget to live, you forget to enjoy the amazing sound of the rain, the beautiful shades of green, the warmth of a soft blanket, the joy of holding hands with a love one; the wonder of a smile form a stranger.

We are all so busy at making sure every detail is just so, or we try to maintain the trick to such levels that along the journey we forget the purpose of the self. We forget that in order to enjoy the journey, the journey itself is also the reward.

So what if things are not perfect, so what if at first you failed, for failure it is only feedback, it is just a solution opportunity.

How many of you have given up on walking when you were a baby after the first time you fell on your bum? But then again, in order to walk, how many steps did you have to complete before that very first standing on your own to legs? I know some will say, but what about those who are unable to walk due to physical issues, I think there is something innate in all of us, that would like us to be able to walk, and within that limitation of our movement; we find other ways to move, to engage the world, our senses adapt, so we discover the world through other means.

How many of you have given up when you made the first sound in an effort to speak? Did you just give up? Did you get so caught up in the detail of the word that you lost all ability to link the sounds together? Or did you repeat the sound until you made yourself understood? Once again I hear some say, but what about people who can not speak? All of us communicate with the world, perhaps in our own way, but we communicate, for without communicating we do not get our needs met, and the body wants to survive, so it will find a communication method; that will get it’s needs met.

So, then I ask again, is detail important? And to what degree? How much are you lost in perfection that you loose sight of that which we call life?

Blow away the dandelion and make a wish!
