Inside a cave featuring various intricate stalactites and stalagmites with warm lighting highlighting the formations.

Nature has a myriad of ways in expressing itself, on the surface of the planet or on the inside. Wherever you go beautiful and amazing vistas can unfold before your eyes. This “cathedral” of stalagmites and stalactites is under the mountain in Monaco Monte-Carlo and has been around for thousands of years. The ornaments in the cave have been formed through the drips of water filtering through and dripping through the limestone over hundreds of years. Nature shows us every day that drip by drip it is possible to create beauty and a lasting impact in the world.

It is interesting that nature finds a way to have a presence without imposing, and yet with perseverance and patience it manages to create incredible and complex architectures. Nature always finds a way to recycle and redistribute its resources in a way that it is efficient and long lasting.

Human beings have long since forgotten what nature has taught them. In the ancient times, when we were one with our surroundings, we were able to look at nature and find ways to lift our spirits. We would spend time with a tree and find the wisdom in it’s way of life. We would see wildlife and revere nature’s ability to create the creatures. We observed the stars moving across the sky and we divined a way of guiding our steps. The thunder to some ancient humans meant it was the voice of god. We thanked the river for providing us the water we needed to survive. We were able to speak to nature and nature spoke back to us, and the symbiosis was complete.

As modern humans we live in concrete apartments, we tarmac the driveway, we plastic “grass” over the lawn, so that we have minimal “work” to do for we “have no green fingers”. Some of us have no flowers or growing plants around us because of allergies. Humans hunt for sport, cut the trees down for profit, pollute the water for even more profit, extract minerals and crystals for more profit. We sterilise the world around us to make it 99.99% germ free. And we wonder why we no longer find the peace within?

Have you sat by the river and listened to the water flowing?

Have you watched the sun setting? Have you contemplated the clouds moving about above your head?

Have you listened to the sound of the rain outside?

Have you watched the lightning cross the sky and create the patterns?

Have you listened to the sound of the bird?

Have you watched the ant take it’s food to it’s nest?

When have you taken a step outside the concrete jungle to enjoy nature for real?

The other day I saw a meme that said “Me during the year: see spider web, clean it off with the broom. Same me during Halloween: let’s decorate the house with fake spider webs.” And the meme then had the image of a spider with a questioning look on it’s face.

We speak about ourselves as humans as important and intelligent and forward thinkers, but are we really?

We talk about needing better mental health, but how can you have good mental health when the world we see around us is baren and devoid of life?

How can we rejoice and feel alive when we are surrounded by things alone, with few living beings or entities around?

How can we feel connected to the world when we are isolated from it?

Yes, some of us live in the sky, but are we of the sky?

Some of us live in the woods, but are we of the woods?

Some of us live on the water, but are we of the water?

Some of us have pets, but are we ones with that creature?

And of course some of us are with other humans, but are we indeed connected with them, or are we just sharing a space and nothing more?
