Transparent

The see-through creature of the sea- I took this picture in Monaco Monte Carlo in 2008. This is an image that I really love in my collection as it managed to capture them so brilliantly against the blue lighting in the tank. Of course these creatures can be quite harmful to use humans, and yet they are beautiful to watch as they swim and sway in the water.

I chose this image because transparency is something that is not an easy trait to have as a human. It is not because we are much denser as creatures of this planet, but because in order to be transparent one has to be honest, and in a society where honesty is hard to find, well, being transparent can be difficult.

Human being are in love with the idea of honesty and lying is frowned upon in all cultures, but I have to ask you, have you ever been totally honest?

Have you actually been able to go through a whole day without making one statement that perhaps you did not believe in?

Have you managed for half a day to be totally honest?

Have you managed at least an hour without avoiding an answer or answering with different words than what you were thinking?

Transparency and total honesty is a difficult trait for humans, and it is not only linked with the outside world.

How many times have you told yourself a lie?

How many times you told yourself that a relationship is not that bad?

How many times did you tell yourself the money you are paying out will not put you in a financial bind eventually?

How many times did you lie to your body that you are not tired yet, or you are not hungry, or there is still space for another slice of cake?

So if we can’t even be honest with ourselves, then how can we be honest with the world outside?

Many of my clients avoid answering my questions, or give me answers they think I want to hear, not only that but they lie to themselves that much of what they have experienced it was not that bad. And of course by lying to themselves leads also to a withdrawal from the world; or brining up a barrier between them and the world.

For a sea creature it is easy to be transparent, for a land one however…

Time to take out your diary and take some notes when answering the questions.
