A black-and-white image of dolphins performing a jump at an aquatic show, with two trainers in the foreground and palm trees in the background.

Antibes, France 2008 – I captured this during the show at the Marine life Park. The dolphins were all too eager to please their handlers for a bucket of fish. Looking back, perhaps these wonderful creatures should really be enjoying the big outdoors, doing their own thing in the sea but alas they were simply there to entertain the crowd.

So then, what is your equivalent of the “fish”?

What are you willing to do for the right reward?

What type of behaviours (that perhaps you are not too proud of), did you do because it made sense at the time, or the reward was good enough?

Have you ever felt like you could not get out of something; so, you just went along with whatever was happening?

Who in your life feels like a “handler”, just like the dolphins in the image have?

Who whistles and you jump?

Then the question is, do you hear the “whistle” or do you just jump?

And then I also wonder; what emotions raised within you by others also make you jump?

Have you ever figured out that the emotions you feel; they are your own, and not something others have raised within you?

So, I wonder what kind of mental acrobatics are you doing, to come to those emotions, when in fact the easiest thing would be just to let go of that thought and things would be different.

Have you ever caught yourself doing these mental acrobatics to reach the negative emotion you may have experienced?

In those moments you got caught on the “hook” of your “fisherman”, you caught the proverbial bait?

But then again, has the other person baited you, or did you bait yourself, really?

Have you noticed that before you can let yourself off the hook, you basically need to let the other people off first?

Hmmmm….

We are doing it for the fish…..
