This guys was searching for something on the ocean’s shores in Portugal and is a befitting starting point for my entry today.
A new week is beginning when I am writing this entry, and of curse as with all beginnings it is time we contemplate how this new beginning will go.
The search for a new self, a new identity, or a new way of being is a tricky. And of course as we are starting a new week, I am also trying to invite you to do something different this week. It is never too late to begin a new experience in the world.
How could you deviate from the routine of your life?
How could you wake up in the morning and do or thing kina different way?
When did you come up with an original idea?
When did you go without your morning coffee deliberately?
When did you have breakfast instead of skipping it?
When did you change up what or how you wear something?
When did you actually take a different route to work?
We are such creatures of habits, that any deviation from the norm feels like effort. They say that if you have a certain difference about you then you tend to be very fixed in views and inflexible, and yet I would suggest that most human beings are inflexible about things in their lives.
We construct and idea about ourselves, we construct a persona, we construct a life style, and anything that may jeopardise it is dismissed, eliminated or avoided. The fear of deviation from the norm is greater than the actual deviation itself.
I think I have mentioned this before in one of my entries. A few years ago I was working with a client and they told me how they would not want to change anything about their life as they would be loosing their identity of who they are. It was interesting hearing them say it, especially as they showed up for sessions with me in the hopes that they do things differently.
How are you expected to have different outcomes if you do not do anything differently. How can you have a different experience if you do not change a thought, you do not instigate a new emotion, you do not change anything about an environment? How can you become better at something without practice? How can you devise a different view of the self without asking for feedback from others? How can you evolve in your thinking if you are not willing to expand your mind.
Last week I was telling you about someone I know who could not believe how much time I have on my hands to do things, when they could not even have time for themselves. Unlike that individual, I make time, I chose to expand my horizons. I choose to make sure that I am priority, not to the detriment of others, but by honouring my very existence. We are not on this planet to suffer, we are on this planet to enjoy the wonders of the human experience, and we can not have a human experience if we chose not to engage in it. If we do not engage in the human experience, we will be eventually forced to join by the universal laws. The search is just beginning, we might as well enjoy the exploration.
Time to take out your diary and take some notes when answering the questions.
