A squirrel taking food from the public, to it, this is a rare treat, it does not have to do anything to be fed. Of course, being fed by humans goes against every instinct this animal has, its internal systems should tell it to run but instead its belly is telling it to go near the human. After all what’s in the hand is better than not having anything. Also, by getting fed, it does not have to go and gather the necessary resources, it has found a short cut.
To the external eye it is also about being baited by the human to get near them, because feeding wild animals is so “cute”.
Do you ever feel baited in your life? What is the proverbial carrot that got you involved in certain behaviours? What “carrot” got you to do something that perhaps went against all your own instincts? What “carrot” continues to bait you today, that perhaps is actually not healthy for you? What emotional hooks do you have, that make you go near that which is not in your best interest?
Do you ever feel like the squirrel?
