Blockers

When I visit any stately home I am fascinated by the iron gates as you drive up to the main house. This day in 2016 wasn’t any different. The gate in the image was clearly there to stop the “average Joe” entering the property. I believe this is the entrance to Blenheim palace, from the back of the property onto the big green. The intricate iron work with the pillars either side are still a barrier to any new comer.

In life we often come across barriers that perhaps are just as elaborate as this gate. Sometimes we can see through our own personal barrier and observe the world on the other side. Sometimes the barrier is as thick as a castle wall, dense and impenetrable. Whichever type of barrier you have set up in your life, I wonder how are you overcome it? Do you climb over it? Do you squeeze under it? Do you go around it? Do you jump over it? Or do you try to run at it with all your force in the hopes of getting through? Or perhaps you just give up sit at the bottom of the barrier and take a nap?

What ever your style, I am sure you have come across personal barriers. The question is, how do other people overcome them? Have you ever ask someone how they did it? Or did you just fumble and stumble along in the hopes that you make it?

Today it was a super windy and rainy day, and I was due to do house visit with a client. And before I was due to set off, I got a call from the client saying that perhaps we have to skip the session as it was too windy and rainy and they felt bad that I may get wet. I could have used the excuse of, “well of course, if that’s what you think then perhaps we can skip the week”, and stay snug at home. I could have allowed my client to skip a perhaps uncomfortable discussion, but I wonder was it about my comfort they were worried about or their own? In my view there is no inappropriate weather, just an unprepared traveller.

So time to analyse your own way of overcoming personal hurdles? There are many choices, which would you chose?
