In one of my trips in 2016, I photographed these two felines seemingly after a conflict that may have occurred between them. Does this not remind you of conflict you may see between family members, or even friends? If there ever was a symbol for giving someone, the cold shoulder, this would represent it.
How do you define conflict? Is it internal or external? Who do you enter into conflict with the most? Who helps you out in times of conflict? Do you instigate the conflict? Or are you on the receiving end of the conflict? What does it take for conflict to occur?
In the past two weeks, I found myself equating conflict to a pressure cooker. Things build and build and build until we “blow the fuse” and presto conflict arises. So, the question is, do people make you fight them or is the whole conflict thing purely internal, almost like you being frustrated with things and not finding a solution to it, so then you make it someone else’s problem?
Which cat are you? The cat giving the “dirty look” or the one turning it’s back.
Also, what do you do to resolve the conflict? Do you ever apologise for loosing it? Do you expect the other to apologise?
I don’t like conflict and I do not think I will ever like it. The energy of it just does not sit well with me, and yet I am often in conflict with myself, that then I have taken it out on others. So, I guess the first step towards resolving it is being able to recognise that the conflict on the outside was only a reflection of the conflict on the inside, but then there are many steps before we can also recognise that we should not take it out on the nearest and dearest.
Take a bit of time and reflect how do you resolve any conflict that may arise for you, jot down some ideas. Do you know someone who is an expert negotiator of conflict?
