“The council of elders” – a set of statues in Europe. Sitting around as if conversing about the fate of the city or even the fate of humanity; we would never know.
Another image that takes us back into antiquity, when the wisest of the tribe would help make decisions, but would also counsel their tribe’s people to consider their own worthwhile contribution to the world.
The modern council of elder has long since become a gathering of individuals with individual agendas, rather than a group of wisdom seekers who look to pass on this wisdom to the new generation.
In the modern world, we have been taught information in school and yet so few have also been taught how to apply this so it can become wisdom.
The other day I was pondering how much of that which keeps us alive and in harmony with the world has been lost. Not only that, we lost the harmony without surroundings; but we have been conditioned to take advantage of the world around, rather than live in coherence with it.
Every time you turn the TV on you are bombarded with information that tells you that you are “less than …”, a topic we spoke of many times in these past 130+ days. We are also told that people who look different to us, or wear something different to us, as not ok. This difference is also being pushed through the games we play, the films that were produced in the last decade. Overall, we have lost the reverence for diversity, for the beauty of difference, so the great equaliser came about.
I wonder how you each use your wisdom in the interactions you have daily with others? I wonder how you have developed that wisdom?
Who was your source of coherence?
How do you recognise that the difference around you, links to the biodiversity that keeps an eco-system harmonious?
We know from nature that when one species is dominant with no natural predator to tweak the numbers; the system becomes unbalanced. So, I am also wondering how do we as a human species need to adjust ourselves in order to work in a balanced way in nature?
Would you make the cut and be voted into the council of elders?
