Fly traps, the thing of nightmares. I am pretty sure I saw a film a few decades ago; where these tiny little plants were used as a basis for a horror film. And yet when you see them up close; they are these tiny little plants that you would not think it could hurt a fly.
It is interesting how in the vegetable and animal kingdom we find species that use camouflage, colours or imitation to fend off predators or be more attractive so they can feed. Nature evolved them to a point that they reached the best version of themselves in order to survive in the harsh environment in the wild.
I am eternally wondering, how come human beings continue to not use the information gained in their lives to protect themselves or to even try to evolve themselves; to become a more improved version of them. And here’s the reason why I often wonder about this. If you look at the news bulletins; or if you peruse the interwebs you come across so many stories where a human being instead of using their instinct to survive they went straight to danger without thinking. I was talking to a client yesterday and this person was telling me about their antics, and all I can do is cringe, because I knew how unsafe they were. So when I asked them about their thought process, they told me how they risk assessed it all and deemed the risk acceptable, and yet anyone else looking in would have clearly seen the errors in thinking. This person has rationalised their actions to the point that it became acceptable. And I guess as human beings we do these rationalised decisions in order to not face the consequences, or the emotions that would naturally come up when realising the decisions were not in the best interest of the human. So we come back to this subject of emotions and states of being.
When we are hungry for an outcome sometimes we rationalise that the end justifies the means; but then again, does it?
It also comes back to that moral code we accepted as truth at some point in our lives, and sometimes we override the moral code to justify the end of our actions.
I wonder (well actually I don’t have to wonder), how would life change if we became more conscious of our impact in the world. But not just become conscious for 5 minutes, but actually live consciously, and fully considered the impact of our words, actions, responses, instead of justifying ourselves. When a parent instead of shouting at a child because they felt fearful the child was about to get hurt, the parents would acknowledge their own fear first deal with the emotion and then respond to the situation. When hearing the first word uttered by a person we do not vibe with we would give the person the benefit of the doubt and allow them to express themselves without being judged. Wouldn’t life be different?
Hunger in a human being can be because of boredom, dehydration, actual hunger, because we expanded more energy than we have in our storage, and yet most of us we would just eat without thinking. Even hunger comes down to us being conscious of what is happening around us. I guess it is time we pay a bit more attention to the world, and live a bit more connected with the inner and outer world.
