I wish I could, but, no!

Today we will be facing a part of us again that makes us perhaps less then prepared for the life we have always dreamed for ourselves. The calf in the picture was grazing by the fence and I tried to offer it the same grass that by itself it was already chewing on. When I handed her the handful of grass clearly did not look the same as if it was pulling it by itself and therefore rejected my offer.

Do you not feel like sometimes you are offered help, but you reject it outright, just because it doe not match your internal impression of how help should be like?

Take the classic example of a small child who is crying and throwing a tantrum after skipping it’s normal nap time. Such a little child still does not have enough knowledge of him or herself that perhaps their body feels off because they are super tired, but despite your best efforts as the care giver you just can not settle him or her. So you are talking to the child, and try to sooth the child and instead of the child settling, instead is screaming harder, and the tantrum gets bigger and bigger And the distress is bigger and bigger and therefore he or she needs you more and more, but the more you try to help the more the child kicks and screams.

Doesn’t it feel like you are doing this yourself sometimes? Perhaps someone from the outside can recognise that you need some support, and they offer the help, and because things do not add up in your help, you reject the help. Then someone else recognise the need and they try to help, and you reject again the help. And then time elapses and you wonder why is nobody helping? But you forget that time ago help came, perhaps not when you recognised it, but when the universe provided.

In my image I was trying to feed the calf, not because it could not feed itself, but because I wanted to feed it, you know give it a treat. Clearly the calf did not feel I was safe enough to approach, and therefore it turned away and picked it’s own food.

Sometimes as humans we also feel like we are being forced to accept the help when perhaps we are not ready yet. So when do you know you are ready? How do you recognise a helping hand when it comes your way? Are you able to accept help?
