Polar oposites

The male and the female, facing in and safing away engaged dissengaged, present or absent. These are all concepts that are polar opposites, a push and pull factor.

My travel companions were just conversing about something but as they sit by the mile stone, to me this image evokes a dualistic approach to the world. It exemplifies quite clerly that opposites can exist at the same time and they do not have to exclude each other.

IT is also fascinating to look at this image in the context of the mile stone. It is there to inform the traveller where they are, how far they have travelled, indicate they are on the right track and perhaps remind them how far they have to travel still.

This picture with a meaning is making us contemplate what might be happening. One person is with the back to the camera, whilst the other is facing. Both appearing to play with the fauna around them. As we view this image we can not begin to guess the conversation, we would just have to guess, by watching the facial expressions and their body moements. We can see two people facing away from each other and yet in a silent but peraps comfortable position. They may be meerly be exploring their own thoughts without talking, but for anyone whith heavy emotional burdens this image would evoke a negative state of being.

As some of us move towards coherence others accepting that polar opposites are only faces of the same coin, others may hide on side in favour of the other. Some tap into only the dark, heavier side of their life, without contemplating the potential of light in existance. Others exclude darkness in favour of light alone, and are not willing to step into the shadows ever again.

In my work with my clients I find these two extremes often, and then it is my task to show them that two possibilities can exist. I try to get them to see that polar opposite states can co-exist.

Have you ever seen in nature, that you might have clear blue skies one side of the road, and a tempest brewing on the other? You could have a tree in full bloom, whilst the other side of it might be rotted or drying out? Have you seen the water of a river frozen, but underneath the water continues to flow? If this can happen in nature, why are we humans so set on only one side to exist to the exclusion of the other?

How many times have you struggled to see the polar opposites in your appoaches?

Have you ever excluded one possibility because the opposing one sat so uncomfortably in your field? And perhaps the task should have been to move towards the uncomfrotable rather than away from it?

If we are to be the most evolved of nature’s creatures – what makes us so sure only ones side is correct? Why can’t both sides be correct in their perspective and then find that 3rd perspective of neutrality?

As always – feel free to contemplate the answers, and perhaps start writing your thoughts down.
