Read your own story

We talked about your own life story so many times these path moths, and I wonder if you had the change to recapitulate it all. I am wondering if you have indeed tried to acknowledge the good the bad and the ugly, and whether you have started to move on?!

As a child I imagined many a time what it would be life to write my life story for people to read, and I even started a few entries in my journals but then it all descended into chaos and I abandoned the thought.

Of course the story is not at it’s end yet, and it is perhaps not in the middle of it, and yet the book feels like it is already written. But is it though?

Many human beings the act as if all is written, all is decided, all is unmovable, unchangeable, just like the statue in the image. I am not sure how old the statue is, but due to the green layers of the rust, you may think it is ancient, but perhaps is only weathered and it may be only a year old. In the same way we take that which is happening to us, give into the experience as if we have no choice about it, and let it run without questioning it. We wake up each day, we do the same thing, we go about the motions of the day (something we spoke about already) and continue as is without question. We go to work, we come home, we make some food and the drone like existence continue, we go with the predictable future and never question that it can be different.

If we started life out with as a tragedy, we look for instances to validate that tragedy and therefore continue to live a tragedy.

If we start life out with drama, we seek the drama to create more drama so we live drama.

If it is a comedy we continue to laugh and make joke of situations and take nothing seriously for being serious ruins our vibe, so we eliminate anything that’s tragic or dramatic.

We are told to forget about things, emotions, and not think of stuff that causes distress, for if we remember then the world will come crashing down around us and we would drown.

But what if the book we call life, the story of US would be nuanced, with tragedy, comedy, sci-fi, drama all rolled into one. And what if we could negotiate these nuances from a place of knowing that all will be well. What if we rode the wave of our story the way a surfer flows with the wave? How would that story unfold then? What if we gave up being statues in our world, and we started moving and flowing and we carved out a new experience every day?

How would you re-write your story if flexibility was more present in your world?
