A tranquil garden pond featuring tall, green plants with fluffy tops, reflecting in the water. The surrounding rocks and hints of fish can be seen in the clear water, under a cloudy sky.

.

The reflective surface of the water, shining back that which is already there but with the distortion of the waves created by the wind. A true reflection of the world around in water is always fascinating and a challenge to capture, with the sky and the water to be in clear balance of light. And of course in this image I wanted to capture the actual vista, with the reflection of it in the water and also capture the fish swimming in the water. A difficult task indeed.

When you look in the mirror in your home who do you see? Do you see a true reflection of yourself? Do you spend enough time in front of the mirror to take note of the form reflected back at you? Do you think that what you imagine of yourself is the true face looking back at you? Do you recognise the distortion of your own image of self into that person in the mirror you barely recognise?

You have been looking at yourself all your life and therefore you have an imagined image of who you are. I guess this imagined view of self is why perhaps when we take a selfie or when others take a picture of us, those images feel and seem unreal. It is as if the image on the screen or paper is a lie, as if that person in that image is not us, but a distorted version of us.

The inner and the outer world is very different, and perhaps you have already recognised this, and perhaps you are still in denial, but the reality is, that you are not that which you experience yourself as, and you are not what others say you are either.

So who are you?

If the reflection in the mirror and the observation of self is not you, then who are you truly?

Can you say for definite that what you think and what you feel, and what you see with your eyes or hear with your ears is real?

Are all the noises around you a reflection of the waves and frequencies about you?

Is the light spectrum observed by your eyes a true reflection of the colours and the shapes you are perceiving? How attuned are you to your senses overall?

How attuned are you to all those antennae you have called your pores?

Are you attuned to all of the movements in your body and the outside world?

Can you actually be attentive to all that data entering your mind?

Who is on the other side of the mirror? Is it you, is it a mirrored version of you?

Is it a distorted aspect of you?

Have you made friends with the person in the mirror?

Are you at ease with that reflection?

Are you ok with the perfection or the imperfection?

Are you ok with the asymmetry of the two worlds?

Are you ok with the distance between your self and the self in the mirror?

The water reflects all there is around itself and bends to the will of nature just to reflect back the distorted reality of the experience of the world. The rest is but a dream.
