Illuminated fountain featuring vibrant pink and orange lights, surrounded by dusk skies with a visible moon in the background.

2011 Trafalgar Square in London, all lit up ready for the winter festivities. I guess what captured my imagination at the time was how the moon shone through the clouds as a backdrop to the already colourful water fountain.

As we are getting closer to that time when parts of the world are celebrating the birth of a very special child, and others remember that around this time of the year they would celebrate the birth of the sun once more as it passes the Equator, I could not ignore the festivities.

I do hope that if you are celebrating, that you are not alone, that you have someone you can spend some time with, break bread, enjoy a good conversation with and perhaps celebrate with an exchange of a gift.

I hope that as we are closing yet another chapter on the world, you are able to reflect back on that which is so beautiful and worth remembering.

We may well be told by the flat screen how to be this season, but perhaps it is worth remembering that as human beings togetherness has always been appreciated. It is always worth remembering that we are not alone on this planet. It may feel like sometimes we are ignored by others or forgotten, but as a collective we are always linked.

As we settled down around the table with those nearest and dearest, I do wish you all the merriest of festivities, and I send you all thoughts full of good tidings and joy.

And if you can, do say hello to your neighbour as you pass them, pass on a present to an unsuspecting stranger, and if you can not do either, a smile will never go amiss.

Happy holidays!
