Wings of change

Today is not a photography as such that is inspiring the conversation, but a digital design of mine transformed into an image. I found myself entitling this entry “wings of change”.

Today in my day job I observed how change or rather transformation was happening in action, and it felt like the transformation has grown it’s own wings. At the same time in the conversations I found myself wondering what keeps me stuck or maybe from other’s perspective “immobile”.

Today was all about challenging some adults about how they do a very adults job, with little reward but high stress factor, super demanding but at the same time a job that none would give up no matter what. The discussion then moved on to what makes them hold on to that job, but at the same time what are the biggest challenges of the job, and yet none of them would not give up at all. And through it all they were trying to find a solution about how to put up with the job because they knew exactly what to do already but nothing about the job changes.

When I was talking to a colleague I was asked what makes me stay in the day job I am in and not go for a different role. And as we were talking and I was listening to myself I could hear myself coming up with excuses why I did not want the jobs they were suggesting, rather than what would make me take the job. I guess what they were suggesting would be about changing my role not because it would bring me benefits, but it would bring other benefits. But on reflection I guess they were asking for me to move on just because I acquired additional insight about the world rather than how would those new roles once again bring a transformation for me. And I guess their perspective was that with the current knowledge I have I could make a difference, and as I was listening to them and myself talking myself out of jobs I could not help but wonder for myself what keeps me in the job I am. And I guess one of the key elements I could reflect back was that in order to do what I do I need to have a client group willing to journey along in their transformation. And then I realised that in my current role I do just that I am allowing the client group to take the lead, to be the agents of their own transformation; and actually I am a mere steward to their own emergence from the chrysalis. My colleague was speaking from their observation of self considering how their own journey would look like; whilst all along they were exploring for themselves that journey of transformation.

It is interesting how in our encounters the discussion is not always a true dialogue. It is interesting how in order to become something new the perception is that we need to move on to something new rather than evolve into something new and yet perhaps not move on.

As I was listening to a video before I started the blog entry, the person was talking about the difference of change and transformation and about mirroring. And I could not help but reflect myself that what I am involved in my journey of discover through the job I am doing. And that I am not in the business of changing people but perhaps I an in the role of helping them do that 360 degree turn whereby they have looked at all angles of the self and they have come back home to experience the world a new wisdom.

In your own life, are you always looking for change? Or are you for transformation?

In order for a butterfly to become a butterfly it needs to go through many stages of transformation. Before it has wings there are so many rediscoveries of it’s own self, but the butterfly will never loose it’s caterpillar self; it just became something new by going through those steps. The old and the new find each other in the same being.

Are you ready to emerge anew?

As always join in the conversation in a comment, or journal your thoughts. We are ready to evolve, join us on the journey of discovery.
