A large, realistic model of a Tyrannosaurus rex displayed in a public park, surrounded by greenery.

The animatronic T-Rex advertising for the dinosaur exhibit in 2012, for a baby or a toddler, the scariest thing of all, for an adult – it’s just a cool toy. Perspective is often what gives us the impression of what we see in front of us.

If we were ancient humans, and we would have seen one of these, we would not be able to make the distinction between a real T-Rex or a fake one, the instinct to run would be so overwhelming, that no amount of people telling us it’s safe, the brain would just not be able to calm down. A T-Rex was a frightening sight back then, it was larger than us, it was vicious, carnivorous, deadly, something to avoid.

Fast forward a few millennia and we laugh at the sight of this T-Rex in plastic, we laugh because we know it is not real, no matter how realistic the skin is. We know it is not real, because we learnt about them going extinct a significant while ago. But then again why a tiny little spider scares the life out of some? The other super scary things for us are a thought, are an embarrassing moment in our lives, a forgotten sentence, a burnt casserole. Now really, our modern brain finds scary so many things in this world, so a T-Rex would be just a minor thing in the ocean of fears.

I know, I am become repetitive, but seriously, what fears have you overcame lately? As I am typing I noticed how the 1cm wide black spider that was above my head for the past hour or so, has now moved along the ceiling and is meters away from me, and I know that it is just making its rounds. But what about someone who is arachnophobe who may be reading this entry? Perhaps jut the mention of the word and they would not be able to go one.

You wonder why I keep coming back to this theme of being afraid or scared?!

Well, tell me, how often have you not tried to speak to a person you fancied for far of rejection?

How often have you not pursued that job for fear of loosing the one you have?

How many times have you feared leaving a relationship that was no longer working, for fear of loosing that security of having someone in your life? How often have you not spoken your truth for fear of offending? How many times have you denied who you truly are to fit in?

I have asked you these questions many times this year, have you done anything about them?

Have you made any changes in your life? Have you upgraded yet?

T-Rex say “Rawr! Fear me!!” What is your metaphoric T-REX?!
