Clearly I was not the droid they were looking for, I was no even the robot or the supernatural they were after. They were clearly searching for the rebels, but the only ones they could fine were the non masked ones enjoying strawberries and cream.
These suits are so popular that I do not even have to tell you what was fascinating about photographing them at a car show. And yes they were going from car to car talking to the drivers and searching the cars, hahahaha. For privacy purposes I blurred out the faces of the visitors that were close to our search party, they now wear the mask of blur. 😊
When we put on a mask, whichever it may be; it is easier to go about in life, or so it seems.
I recently worked with a client who put on a “resting bitch face” in order to fend off people around them. Nobody approached to ask if they were ok and yet they craved human contact and someone to ask them if they were really ok.
Sometimes the mask we have been wearing becomes so attached to us that we no longer recognise ourselves. We sometimes hide feelings so much in order to protect ourselves that we can no longer recognise our own reality.
Another client I have been working with in order to hid their childhood trauma put on a face of “independence” so that the do not have to rely on others, and therefore reject anyone who can not meet their needs in their entirety. With this client I had to chip away at their armour of steel before they could admit that disappointment and being let down by their birthmother in childhood was the cause of their pain today. And yet despite these conversations this client continues to put on the armour every time they leave the house; when they are with family; with friends. They pretend like they do not care when people let them down; they pretend they are not craving the love of family members; they pretend they are not needing anyone’s help A mask of fierce independence in order not to get hurt once more.
Sometimes the choice of mask is to laugh all the time and pretend you are always happy. I did work with a client who did just that, in their eyes they were faking it until they made it.
So if we were truly honest and we searched behind the mask we show the world, will we find the self we are looking for, or is it covered in so many layers, that we become an unfinished mindless clone of our former selves? Are we able to find out inner light? Are we following the inner darkness? Or are we real with how we feel and how we think, or how we express ourselves? Are we spelling into the world the thoughts within?
The search continues….
